Grand Budapest Hotel mural

If you are looking for somewhere really charming to eat in downtown Cape Town, The Wes is for you. It is inspired by the whimsical world of Wes Anderson and is French cuisine to the hilt. The food is conceptualized and designed by local legend and food alchemist Peter Goffe- Wood and is packed with French Bistro classics. There is richly layered Cape Bouillabaisse and delicate Twice Baked Goat’s Cheese Souffle and many other interesting options to salivate over.

Chicken Liver Parfait

The Chicken Liver Parfait was way beyond the normal thing you would expect from chicken liver pate, smooth and silky with intense flavor.

Moules Mariniere

The Moules Mariniere were in the most delicious creamy sauce and the oysters were—well, they were oysters– not my kind of thing, but thoroughly enjoyed by the other guests at the table.

Oysters, of course

Two of us opted for the pan seared salmon, which was fabulous, with the skin crisp and delicious, served on a bed of the tenderest baby vegetables in a delicious light sauce.

Fabulous salmon

Being diabetic, I absolutely insisted on a sugary dessert and the Creme Brulée did not disappoint, creamy and rich to perfection.

Creme Brulee

The service is friendly and very professional, and the wine list is extensive, although on the pricey side. Corkage is R100 per bottle for 4 guests.

Interior

All in all, a delightful experience in slightly offbeat and quirky surroundings.
